AquaVest develops creditble and affordable transition pathways towards (more) circular regional water systems and guides investments in water infrastructure.

Business propositions

There is a growing need to more efficiently use and reuse the water we extract from nature. However, realizing these water reuse schemes requires collaboration between the public and private sector and (joint) investments in water infrastructure. The development of business propositions that consider the interest of all stakeholders is key for this to happen. AquaVest develops objective (data-based) system solutions and provides transparency in the costs and benefits for each stakeholder involved.  This facilitates constructive dialogue among the stakeholders when it comes to pain-gain sharing, and who should pay what.

Transparency in costs and benefits

Investment planning

AquaVest identifies the required investments to meet the future demands for water in a sustainable way. The algorithm explores different combinations of water treatment technology, water storage solutions and water distribution infrastructure. Underground water storage solutions play an important role in the water reuse schemes of the future. AquaVest can also be applied to optimize MAR (Managed Aquifer Recharge) schemes. The algorithm then phases the required investments over time as efficiëntly as possible, taking account of future changes in supply & demand. This leads to an average CAPEX saving of up to 20%.

This way, AquaVest creates credible and affordable transition pathways towards sustainable water systems. Water infrastructure investments are capital intensive and have a life time of 20-30 years, and should really be first time right!

Impact = costs versus benefits

We evaluate the social, environmental and economic impact of our infrastructure solutions. We measure, amongst others, the following KPI’s:

  • Number of people supplied with drinking water
  • Number of people connected to sewage infrastructure
  • Volumes of fresh water extracted from nature
  • Volumes of effluents reused by industry and agriculture sectors
  • Total capital and operational expenses
  • Total system costs, pay-back times, ROI etc.

AquaVest for impact investors

It is estimated that a dazzling USD 7,500 billion dollars are needed between now and 2030 to build the water infrastructure required to reach SDG6. Solid and resilient water infrastructure solutions and investment strategies are needed to realize socio-economic growth in the developing countries. AquaVest develops future-proof regional water master plans and investment propositions that balance technical, economic, social, environmental and political interests. The market for water infrastructure investments is booming. Below are shown the estimated global water infrastructure market sizes per sector (2017).

4-10% (CAGR)

5-30% (CAGR)

13-19% (CAGR)

“AquaVest reflects a new way of looking at waterflows and gives new insights in possibilities to create mutual optimisations with other local businesses and authorities. We are positive about these new insights and future opportunities we have discovered.” Jos Peeters, Environmental Manager, Coca-Cola European Partners, NL
